I could volunteer to run a always going ditch battle(complete with reeve!) Surely there will be one or two people who are not in a class all day long.

Once we get a few more people who are interested in attending this event on the student side (I'd like to see at least 9 more, although I know not everyone who plans on attending or would be interested in attending has cast their vote yet) I will have everyone who has cast their votes as an Instructor to PM me, and we can start arranging things. Right now, it would appear that January would be the better month in which to run this. Looking at some of the lands calenders and some upcoming events, November is pretty shot, December is similarly (plus the holidays during both of those months). January seems pretty quiet, so I'll go ahead and tentatively plan it for then.

So, 9 more students and I can start making arrangements.

Ailliath, there will be a practical application period for each class. Probably 20 minutes or so. Additionally, I am fully in support of "The Perpetual Ditch" as suggested by Sir Euric.

Sounds like it's going to be a fun day in the making.

The immense power of the Bard

"a bardic about bards, barding about the battlefield"

-co taught by Milan and Miles-

It's blatantly obvious that bards are the strongest class on the battlefield. We'll show you how to unlock their full potential in a short 14 hour class (two lunch breaks)

Topics include:

I. Bards, the battlefield ally: (at the first sign of lay on, find the nearest tree and commune!)
II. Mimic (why you should choose wizard just to spite your team-mates)
III. The Pro's and Con's of choosing dagger with warskill
IV. running around throwing subdual blows on every barbarian in sight.
V. Using Visit for half your death count to annoy other dead people!
VI. Teleporting game items, allowable for bard only?
VII. fun effects of charm (do I really need to offer a suggestion?)
VIII. Petrify bolts, if we don't get a kill ball, pick the next worse!
VIII. Truth, use it in every battlegame (are you alive? can you see me? Do you have fingers?)

You forgot a few, Milan.

X: The value of Lore as a battlefield advantage (20 Questions time!)
XI: Forever Tag with Awe/Fear (aka "Your New Running Buddy")
XII: Convincing newbs to roleplay Confidence (For Glory!)
XIII: Legend, Voinian Poetry, and You (aka "The Circle Shiv")
XIV: The Virtues of Verbosity (There are never enough words.)

And finally,

XV: How to Charm Milan into buying you a plane ticket to WTF (Protip: open Travelocity on a nearby browser with the dates pre-selected!)
Caprice. Exuberance. Synergy.

I think some good things to teach in the bard class are:

How to throw up the "Metal Horns" 101
Metal screams 101
Writing the name of the land you are playing in on your sword so there is no flub on the "*Insert land name* Are you ready to ROCK?!?!
Mumbling your spell incants like a rockstar. Beginner and Advanced.
Trouser stuffing for maximum awe factor.
Hair and make-up (this would be a specialty class for the "glam" bards).
Proper distribution of scarves on staff for maximum twirl effect.
Proper spandex choice
How to convey the emotion to the archer across the field during a power ballad.
Power chords for ocarinas.
Pavilion trashing. Beginner and Advanced.

That's all I could think of during lunch.

What is the skill required for advanced class as opposed to a beginner class?

Most of the introductory classes will focus on stance(s), blocking, footwork and basic strikes with the weapon(s). They will teach more conceptually, explaining why things are done a certain way, and what goal(s) are trying to be achieved. They will highlight some of the pros and cons of the weapon setup, as well as a few things to keep in mind while using them.

The majority of the advanced classes will have subject matter presented at the discretion of the individual instructor. For the most part, however, I can envision specific methods of attacking and defending against certain other weapon combinations as well as more complicated offensive and defensive strategies and footwork.

I am going to strive to have each instructor teach two introductory classes in the morning, and two advanced classes in the afternoon. For the most part, each instructor will decide how to run their own course schedule and agenda as they best see fit. Most of the standards will be the same, however, across the board. Depending upon the total number of volunteers for instructional positions, some courses may have an instructor and an assistant. I will have all of the instructors lined up by the end of the month. They will have two months plus a few weeks to work out what material they will want to present, as well as how they want to approach the class.

When it comes to rating skill on a solid, cut-and-dry basis, it is very difficult to establish a metric. Thus, as the event draws near, I will have the instructors lay out a syllabus for each course that they will be teaching. If my first paragraphs did not answer your question(s), hopefully this will clarify any lingering inquiries.
