Limeridge Open Space

Postby Durham » Wed Mar 09, 2011 1:42 pm

I just recently went up to a place called Limeridge Open Space on the borders of Concord and Walnut Creek it consists of broad dirt trails, rolling hills, scattered areas of woodlands, tiny ponds and scattered rock formations. I believe from my guess its at least 2 miles long of land. And after having been out there I am interested in trying to run our Total War scenario out there and see how it goes since the space is so massive and full of different areas and its only just up the road from Newhall Park lol

How is the parking? Are there flush toilets? Tables? Just curious :D

No real parking, no toilets, no tables just open space with paths barely touched by man.

Hard to do an event at, then. We could pull the park, but it will be difficult to do an all Amtgard event.
Still, wouldn't mind having open space for some gaming. What's the address?

It's just Limeridge Open Space, it's literally just up the road drom Newhall. All that land up the road towards Walnut Creek is Limeridge. I just love it because it is such a wide open space.

Who owns the land? Is it public (government) land? Can we reserve it by paying someone in city hall?
If it's private, who owns it?

As an individual park/group of border enthusiasts, we can trammel through no problem. We have to be careful if we are Representing Atmgard, though. Amtgard is, technically, a corporate entity so it has to follow rules individuals often choose to ignore.

First google hit looks promising. Traffic through worries me, but probably shouldn't be a problem. Sounds like it has some old quarries, if they aren't too ragged it could be good for quests (caves, monster lairs).

The official Page from the walnut creek city website makes it seem less useful, but that's what diplomacy is for.
There is a park ranger who gives tours, so we could find out when that is, go on tour and ask what would be necessary to have games in the area. The central section is a wildlife preserve, though, and dogs have been attacked by coyotes so we may have trouble stumbling into a den somewhere. Luckily, borders make good deterrents without risking harm to the animals.

Tours look like they happen on a monthly basis, and it says reservations are required for groups of five or more. We may be able to spin a 1/month, 1/6 months or 1/year event, and even get free advertising on their site! I dont know though. We aren't yet as good as the McAbees, and there are no camp sites or toilets. That's... Less than fun.

Offer to provide trail work and manpower to any conservation efforts, that usually goes a long long way.

I'd say that toilets are a must, especially for big events/quests
