A new Amt. Seeks advice in SLO

Postby Lich on Mon May 11, 2009 5:24 pm

Hello everyone,
I am a new to amt guard and such. You may remember me as Paul. I thought I new everything about "boffing". However mine were proven to be inferior, both bulky and heavy. Its really quite different for me since I am use to a 2 handed weapon that is much heavier and the fact that dual wielding and the usage of shields So here I am wondering how I could get materials such as golf handles and materials for making a shield in SLO area. I would of went to the workshop but unfortunately on that day mothers day. I do know how to make a alright boff but I am not sure how to make an amtgard sheild.

Thanks

I have a couple graphite golf club shafts I'll just give ya. Alternately, you could buy a couple of the kitespar rods from the club (only a couple bucks each, I think). As for shield cores, the plank foam shields are increasing in popularity, but not as easy to get a hold of. The other common base of a shield is a snow disc (plastic round toboggan). I bought a handful of them when they were on sale for around $5 each. If you cant find any, I'll sell you one for $5 (if I'm in a good mood, I'll probably just give you one). With the right materials, you can make an Amtgard legal sword at the field and use it same day.

I won't be at the field next week, but my Man-at-Arms Griffin should be. You can hit him up for construction techniques, or you can shoot me any questions you might have.

I can attest to both his generosity, construction tech, and quality. Last time I saw him, he not only gave me beer, but a couple of awesome graphite shafts to boot. And he taught LAG his (rather nice) sword-tech.

Deimos is fantastic .. once you get over the smell. But don't worry .. it doesn't take too long to go nose-deaf.

He also has a never ending supply of middle-fingers and distributes them indiscriminately. Meanie. :(

Nice to know what endless things he has. But back on topic. So Griffin would sell me such items? I was hoping just to work them during this week, so I could actually get some real practice in, and possiblely for my friend John. Could someone point me in some locations? Or if there is a place I could purchase such items from the Amt. club. I am guessing the sporting good store for the shield, however prices are probably not great.

If you can get to Tank Farm Road this week between 8 and 5, I'll hook you up with some swords.

I won't be at the field this week, because a relative is graduating in Ventura and I'm obligated to attend. Since certain people are extolling my virtues (BASTARDS!), I'll donate a shield core and some graphite shafts to your cause. Let me see if I can meet up with anyone who can bring them by the field Saturday.

You keep pulling stuff like this and no one is going to buy into that whole "evil persona" thing. If you ask nicely, I bet Miles will make you some unicorn garb.

Lich: You can usually get graphite golf club shafts For Free. Go to a driving range or pro shop at a golf course. Ask them for their broken shafts. They'll have some, and they'll GIVE them to you.

See, they have to pay to Properly Dispose of them. You're saving them money. One of SG's officers, Tremere, once hit 3-4 courses and ended up with something like 50 shafts, gratis, which he then distributed at the park.

Which gives me an idea for prizes for a newbie tourney.

Well, Dave is a nice person. Deimos, not so much.

And he's welcome to make me unicorn garb, only on the condition that he be the one who tries to put me in it.

Alright, men! You know the mission ahead of you is tough, and you feel like you got the shaft. Of the 20 of you, I only expect back nine. I know alot of you are green, and you've only been with the club a short period of time, but you've quickly gotten into the swing of things, ironed out rough problems, and stood strong without getting teed off while many puttered out. But no one wins a war huddled down in the bunker. Fear is a natural handicap, but I'm sure you can drive your way to success. Do not gopher country, do not gopher profit - gopher victory! Victory is assured, a birdie told me so. When you get back, we'll have a par-tay.

Damn you... this forced a groan out of me... and I'm in the library.
